White Plains, NY-based ConsumerLab.com recently purchased, tested, and reviewed many popular eye health supplements to determine which supplements provided an effective combination and dose of ingredients, and whether or not products actually contained what was listed on labels. The results were published online in ConsumerLab.com’s Product Review of Vision Supplements with Lutein and Zeaxanthin.
 
ConsumerLab.com’s tests found that only one supplement actually provided the exact amounts of ingredients found to be most useful in reducing the risk of advanced age-related macular degeneration. Several other supplements contained similar ingredients, although in different amounts. One product failed to contain its listed amounts of lutein and zeaxanthin, providing only 9% and 65%, respectively, of these key antioxidant pigments which occur in the macula of the retina.
